Digital Technology

Digital Technology continues to expand its role in various sectors and demonstrates the value that can be derived from it. While Healthcare sector has started experimenting with the digital technology based solutions, so far the adoption has been largely at the periphery. However, it is not a matter of 'if' but 'when' the adoption comes to mainstream. However, the challenges are varied and multiple ranging from fitment of solution to cost of implementation to ease of adoption and compatibility with existing & legacy systems.

To support the Healthcare sector, NASSCOM CoE has launched first of its kind program called Healthcare Innovation Challenge (HIC). The program works closely with Healthcare stakeholders to address the challenges faced by Healthcare Providers through the adoption of Digital Technology solutions.

HIC Overview

While Healthcare sector has started experimenting with digital technology solutions, the adoption has been at the periphery. However, the challenges are varied ranging from solution fitment to implementation cost to ease of adoption to compatibility with existing & legacy systems. Healthcare Innovation Challenge (HIC) is a one-of-its-kind initiative that aims to address the challenges faced by healthcare providers in digital technology adoption.

The key objectives of Healthcare Innovation Challenge (HIC) are:

  • Driving operational excellence by enabling automation of administrative processes and digitization of clinical workflows through the adoption of digital technology solutions
  • Enabling Healthcare Providers to nominate Use Cases as per their digital solution needs
  • Driving the program to enable the curation, evaluation & deployment of Technology led Innovative solutions that address the nominated Use Cases

Nominated Use Case

Use Case Use Case Description Use Case Code
Digital Clinical Assistant for Integrating with Legacy EHR The solution should be capable of translating unstructured Data from Legacy EMR into structured data using SNOMED CT, prospectively help Clinician to suggest SNOMED codes using NLP and AI and help improving better coding, using NLP and AI to Code the EMR records to make EMR records use for better analysis and Develop Visual analytics of the Structured data. Must be compatible with the current tool sets published in the CDAC website. C-DAC’s Toolkit For SNOMED CT EMR
Integrating radiology reports and images in to multimedia files Radiology reports are not very patient friendly. A solution that can translate radiology reports with complex medical terms into a patient friendly language and integrate relevant images and videos based on the radiology text report in to a multimedia file. Images and reports can be send through an API to cloud server or the solution can be deployed (preferable) on a local system. One modality and one body part can be chosen initially to build a prototype - say CT Chest in patients with interstitial lung disease or MR spine for degenerative disc disease. RAD
Centralized Tele-Radiology Reporting The group of hospitals located globally use different standards of reporting radiology reports, leading to inefficient utilisation of Radiologists. The solution needed is a centralized radiology reporting centre in the main hospital. The RCC will Integrate with multiple PACS/RIS system, Accept radiology studies from multiple centres and push reports back, Allow scheduling of radiology studies with Radiologist roster, Provide MIS/Management Dashboards/Efficiency Reports/TAT etc., Use industry standards like DICOM, Data extraction and integration capability, Data privacy compliance - anonymization, security etc., Usage of AI tools for aiding diagnostics, Support for multiple modalities - XRAY, MRI, CT etc EDx
Homecare & Patient Monitoring Solutions The hospital has a homecare division which provides at-home medical care. This involves homecare personnel visiting the patients at home, providing the service and coming back. The engagement and treatment is limited to that brief window. They would like to extend this care window to much longr, especially for patients that need prolonged care - like post-operative patients, chronically ill patients. The should provide home care patients with devices and solutions that can allow the hosptal to Monitor patients’ well-being – ex: key vitals being streamed to the cloud/hospital, Ability to initiate a tele-consult with their doctor or nurse, Track patient progress/vitals chart/medication/treatment etc., A mobile App, A central monitoring station at the hospital to monitor all homecare patients with ability to zoom in on specific patients, Automated alerts on changed medical state, patient deterioration etc., Scheduling visits from home care team, Usage of AI tools to predict patient condition and pre-alert before actual event, Connected portable diagnostic machines that can be carried by the homecare team, and ability to integrate this with the feed to the central monitoring station, Integrate with market standard Hospital Information Systems, Ensure data privacy and security. This solution consists of wearables/vitals monitoring devices, connected machines, automated monitoring etc. RPM
AI based Cancer Diagnosis AI assisted diagnosis in histopathology can not only improve productivity of pathologists but also early diagnosis of cancer of various types, Breast, Cervical, Oral & prostate are dominant. The solution should be capable of Diagnosis classification (binary classifier to predict tumor vs. normal) and detection of relevant image information without any labeling. ONCO
OT Automation Hospitals always struggle with efficient utilization of the resources. The expected solution needs to have the capabilities for OT Booking, PAC, OT utilization, equipment assignment and TAT record. The solution should integrate with the HMIS and the Billing system as well. The solution should have a Web & App based interface. OT
Process Automation Medical supply management is a key bottleneck for Hospitals. The solution should be able to automate Goods Receive process through AI integration (Scan Document and convert in to Excel) and Barcoding Automated of Goods PA

Instructions for Applicants
  1. 1. A solution provider can apply for multiple use cases. However, while applying for multiple use cases, please mention solution description for each Use case separately.
  2. 2. Applicants are requested to provide as many details as possible while staying relevant to the Use case(s).
  3. 3. We need end-to-end solutions for the nominated use cases. However, if a solution services a major part of the problem statement, then also the solution providers may apply.
  4. 4. The startup applying for the challenge hereby declares its willingness to deploy the solution for the nominated use case (s), if declared successful.
  5. 5. Since the challenge will be executed in a phase-wise manner, the startups are expected to present the solution to multiple stakeholders
  6. 6. The decision of the Jury Panel with regards to the winning solution shall be final & binding.
  7. 7. If you are using Cloud storage service (like Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox etc) links anywhere in the application, please ensure proper file sharing settings so that the files are accessible.
  8. 8. The file naming convention to be used for the Presentation is USE CASE CODE_STARTUP NAME (ex: if a startup named “Acme” is applying for “Homecare & Patient Monitoring” use case, then file name will be “RPM Acme”. Please refer Use case section in HIC portal for Use Case code.
